"This is a printing house!"

A strong message of innovation for the future of Graphic Arts, Printing and Packaging

The introductory and informational evening event on Graphic Arts, Printing, and Packaging, titled “This Is a Printing House!” was a resounding success. The event took place on Thursday, June 18, at the Public Tobacco Factory—on the premises of the Hellenic Parliament’s Printing Office.

The event was organized by the Center for Research, Development and Education of Packaging, Printing and Graphic Communication PackPrint Science, in collaboration with the Research Laboratory of Graphic Arts and Visual Communication Media Technology GRAPHMEDLAB of the University of West Attica, with the support of the Directorate of Publications and Printing of the Hellenic Parliament.

The event was rightly characterized as unique and innovative since people from different fields found themselves under one roof. Executives from the printing and packaging industry and production, entrepreneurs and researchers, scientific and professional bodies, municipalities and chambers as well as the "public printing units" were "present", with an unprecedented participation!

As part of the event, two thematic panels were held with the participation of leading executives from the industry, the scientific community and their professional bodies. The first section, entitled "From the present to the future: The Graphic Arts, Printing and Packaging sectors - Contribution to Greek society and production" focused on the role and prospects of the Graphic Arts, Printing and Packaging sectors in the Greek economy and production, highlighting the opportunities and challenges of the coming day. The speakers were Avgerinos Hadjichrysos (forlabels), Theodoros Skagias (SKAG), Vasilis Exarchos (Dunapack), while the keynote address was given by Christos Koutrouditsos, President of the Pack Print Science Center. The discussion was moderated by Vasilis Dimakis (graphicanews).

The second thematic section focused on “Research, education and development of human capital”, highlighting the need for substantial and effective education and training in the specialties of the sectors at all levels, with the aim of meeting the ever-increasing needs for specialized human resources. Under the coordination of Giorgos Triantafyllou (Allpack), the speakers were Sotiris Stasinopoulos (Parliamentary Printing House) and Dr. Marios Tsigonias (GRAPHMEDLAB), while the keynote address was given by Dr. Anastasios Politis, Scientific Director of the Pack Print Science Center.

The participants had the opportunity to learn about the vision, goals and priorities of the Pack Print Science Center, which was founded in 2024 with the cooperation of ELSET, HELGRAMED and FESPA Hellas Association and with the aim of becoming a modern institution of research, education and development for the packaging, printing and graphic communication sectors.

Through its activity, the Pack Print Science Center seeks to contribute substantially to the development of businesses, the promotion of innovation, the analysis of new technologies and mainly to addressing the lack of specialized personnel, which has historically been one of the most important problems in the printing and packaging sectors.

The large participation and intense interest of the public confirmed the need to create a permanent framework for dialogue, cooperation and development between the productive, scientific and educational forces in the field, strengthening the role of Pack Print Science as a reference point for the future of Greek packaging, printing and graphic communication.
